Location
Our vineyard lies in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina- specifically in the Los Chacayes geographical indication (IG). It is located a two hour drive south from the Mendoza Airport (MDZ) and just seven minutes west of the town of Los Sauces.
The Los Chacayes IG was established in 2017 and is home to some of the biggest names in Argentinean wines. This has a wide range of elevations and diverse soil types, which allows it to grow a wide range of grape varieties of a world-class caliber. There are currently over 1,885 hectares of planted vines representing over 30 grape varietals, just in a 15 mile radius. -33.58680290371391, -69.21575889337365 |
Climate
Nestled in the heart of the Uco Valley, in the picturesque Mendoza region of Argentina, our vineyard is a sanctuary cradled at the foot of the majestic Andes mountains, within the mesmerizing ‘rain shadow’ of these towering peaks. Rainfall is a rare blessing, gracing us with only 12 inches a year.
Bathed in the embrace of 300 sun-drenched days, our vineyard, stands proudly at an elevation of 3,511 feet. What makes our terroir truly exceptional is the significant temperature difference between day and night, a phenomenon cherished by many grape varieties. This natural occurrence imparts a distinctive character to our grapes, resulting in wines of unparalleled depth and complexity. |
In our vineyard, this climate creates a delicate balance, shaping the yields of our vines and producing grapes of exceptional concentration and nuance. Here, the thick-skinned Malbec and medium-skinned Merlot reach elevated brix levels, requiring precision at harvest to ensure the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness.
The resulting wines are notable for their rich aromas and medium acidity, with an abundance of polyphenols that enhance flavor, color, and mouthfeel—making them perfect for extended aging in oak barrels. Our soil, rich in minerals, supports the production of bold, intense wines, while careful water management allows us to craft softer, more nuanced styles when desired. |
Soil
Our vineyard grows on an ancient river bed that flowed down from the Andres and deposited rocks of various sizes. Our Merlot sits right on the edge of main channel of this river, which is now a road, and the Malbec is only a couple hundred meters north.
The topsoil is the deepest in the area, ranging from 20” to 35” deep and is comprised of 70-80% rocks. The remaining volume is primarily occupied by coarse particles of sand. A low level of organic material in the soil, combined with its physical characteristics, naturally favor water drainage and limit the development of thin and absorbent roots. |
